Lending and return / Ausleihe und Rückgabe

Lending counter service hours

Mo-Thu 9-18
Fr 9-16

Literature from the reading rooms, textbook collections and open stacks can be borrowed by using the self-service issue machines during opening hours.
Reservations, orders from stacks and inter-library loans are provided at the lending counters during their service hours.

You may return borrowed books at any of the return machines located in the different faculty libraries.

Exceptions to this are short loan books which have to be returned to the faculty library to which they belong.
Also, some books and media have to be returned to the lending counters and cannot be returned using the return machines. Please take note of inserts and stickers denoting this.

Loan periods / Leihfristen

Unless the book has been reserved by another user, you may renew the loan period for another 4 weeks, counting from the day of renewal. This can be done a total of 5 times. Short-loan books and books which have been reserved by another user cannot be renewed.

Online access to your library account / Online-Zugriff auf das Bibliothekskonto

Online access to your library account

Library account

Your online library account offers a variety of functions:

You may look up how long your account remains valid before it needs to be renewed, which books you have borrowed and when they need to be returned, and if books you reserved are ready for collection at the lending counters.

You may use your library account to renew loan periods, reserve books, and order books from stacks.

To access your online library account you need your user number (located on either your library card or the back of your Campuscard) and your password, which is your date of birth in the format DDMMYY, e.g. 310590 for 31.05.1990. Then take the following steps:

  • While in OPAC (English interface) click on "User account", or while on the library's homepage click on "Bibliothekskonto".
  • Enter your user number and password.
  • Click on "Abschicken" (send).

You will now see your user data and how long your library account is valid. Click on "Entleihungen" (loans) to see the titles and return dates of your borrowed books. Reserved books ready for collection are listed here, as well.
To renew a loan period mark the titles and click on "Verlängern" (renew). Please check if the renewal was successful afterwards. If books have been reserved by another user or the maximum number of renewals has been reached, no further renewal is possible.

Reserving books / Ausgeliehene Bücher vormerken

  • If the book you want to borrow is marked as on loan (in OPAC: "Ausleihstatus: zurzeit ausgeliehen bis DD-MM-YYYY"), click on "Vormerkungen". Here you can check if other users already reserved the book.
  • Enter your user number and password.
  • Click on "Abschicken" (send). You should see the following notice: "Der Titel ist für Sie vorgemerkt" (The book has been reserved).

E-mail alerts are used for notifying you that a book you reserved is ready for collection. Books that are ready for collection will be kept at the specific library's lending counter for 1 week.
